Hans_Gruber
Hey there, I have not used Linux before but I have dowloaded the iso images of fedora and have put them onto CD and when I boot the computer with the first it seems to boot ok and then I select to install the thing but I am getting an error message that the installation terminated abnormally and then it unloads the file systems and says that it is safe to reboot, does anyone get this error message or know what I can do without downloading the first image all over agian? Download Knoppix. Preview it on the CD-ROM to see if it likes your hardware. Then install it to your hard drive and you'll end up with what is essentially Debian. It's got package management all built in so you don't need to worry about dependencies.
kemical
aside from trying another distro, make sure the iso's you downloaded were burned correctly and that the md5 checks out
markwolfe Veteran Posted February 9, 2004 Veteran Share Posted February 9, 2004 aside from trying another distro, make sure the iso's you downloaded were burned correctly and that the md5 checks out Yes! Checking your md5 is a must when you download something as large as a CD-ROM image. Much less, when you do three! ;) I am pretty sure that Fedora follows the RedHat standard of prompting you to do a check when you first boot up Disk 1, before loading any software. The values you should see for each CD can be found where you downloaded them, or somewhere in http://fedora.redhat.com :D
