Lost my Recycle Bin

Recommended Posts

Hey can any help me with my lost recycle bin? I can't seem to find it anymore. Its as if it doesn't exist on my XP system anymore. I've checked everywhere to try to bring it back and no luck. What I did was accidently changed a reg string and right clicked on the recycle bin, thinking "rename" would be there, but it wasn't. Then i was stupid and click on "delete" and now the recycle bin is gone. Any suggestions? Thanks

I was going to post this earlier, but I was having trouble logging in. :(

  1. Open the registry editor
  2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionExplorerDesktopNameSpace
  3. Create a new key named {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}

As for renaming the recycle bin:

Download and run this registry patch, it should add a "rename" menu option to the recycle bin.

To rename the recycle bin (just by rightclicking the icon on the desktop, for Win 9x/2k and XP), open regedit and find the key

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTCLSID{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08 -00AA002F954E}ShellFolder.

Select this, on the right there's a binary value called Attributes. Rightclick it, 'modify'. Instead of 40 01 00 20 it should read 50 01 00 20 to have a 'rename' option. For a 'delete' option it should read 60 01 00 20 or make it say 70 01 00 20 to have both.

Then for it to work in XP delete the dword "callforattributes=00000040"

Now you should on closing regedit have the right click options to both rename and or delete the recycle bin
