mAcOdIn Veteran Posted February 11, 2002 Veteran Share Posted February 11, 2002 For some reason every pic on my comp's thumbnail is gray now. If I refresh them, they all turn back to the right color but, man is it anoying. Anyone able to help?
aco Veteran Posted February 11, 2002 Veteran Share Posted February 11, 2002 Highlight the files, right-click and click "Refresh thumbnails". I don't know what causes it, but after you refresh them once the problem shouldn't occur again.
mAcOdIn Veteran Posted February 11, 2002 Author Veteran Share Posted February 11, 2002 Yeah I've done that, but for some reason every reboot samething. Maybe I just shouldn't reboot.
marineintel
any chance you just started using any stardock stuff?
mAcOdIn Veteran Posted February 12, 2002 Author Veteran Share Posted February 12, 2002 no no stardock stuff, not a fan of stuff that changes windows that way. The Gimp was the last thing I installed so I removed it and rebooted still no luck. It's weird the association is right or I wouldn't see them but why turn grayish hehe? I can't figure it out
Guest deadzombie
Same thing happened to me on one of my XP Pro boxes, this is what fixed the problem; 1.) Open Windows Explorer (lol - that's always funny to me, no idea why) 2.)In Win Explorer menu; Tools->Folder Options->File Types 3.) Find the extension of each image type that shows up gray (for me it was .bmp's and .gif's) 4.) Change the "Opens With" for each individual file type. Select the "choose from a list" option in the dialog. 5.) Point each image type your having problems with to "Internet Explorer". 6.) When finished, apply changes. 7.) Log out. Log in. (may not be necessary, but why not, we all have cool log-in screens, right?) 8.) All images should appear normal. Right click and select preview. Windows Picture and Fax viewer should open the image if you've done everything correctly. Now you're back to square one in regards to how XP handles the files you've changed. You probably installed a load of graphics software and something took over those image types (hi-jaaked!) Or someone (not you Im sure) installed some ghey Explorer plug in that is transferring funds straight to Bill G., and this is just a side effect. Either way, hope this helps. mAcOdIn Veteran Posted February 12, 2002 Author Veteran Share Posted February 12, 2002 HAHA, well it went away by itself. Don't know what it was or why it happened but when I turned on my comp a minute ago they were back. Thanks to all comments and suggestions, you guys rock! Guest deadzombie
Glad they fixed themselves for you. If they come back, an easier fix is this; 1.) Get hammer. 2.) Smash Windows box to hell. 3.) Repeat #2. That will fix your problem for good.
mAcOdIn Veteran Posted February 12, 2002 Author Veteran Share Posted February 12, 2002 I think all it was was that I needed to increase the money going to Bill to fix the prop.;)
