threetonesun
well that's nice to know. I've been reasonably suprised recently by PC games, Max Payne 2 was actually faster than Max Payne 1 for me on the same card. I used to hate PC games because of their ridiculous requirements, but it seems developers are taking it into consideration at this point.

Chode
I had a mate who was an OpenGL enthusiast.... managed to play the Doom III "demo" ( :ninja: ) on his old GeForce 2 Mx (his CPU was a Pentium 200!!!!!)without overclocking anything... said he got on average 20fps. He also said it took days of tweaking it.

sinatosk
so should my Radion9600XT look as good as that? well... seems thats the Radeon 9600 XT is more powerful than GeForce 3 TI200/TI500 then yeah.... it will. am not surprised about this anyways because about a year ago it was said it be powerful enough to run on a geforce 3 Edited February 10, 2004 by sinatosk

Symbiotic Hat
Yeah I wish he would have put up the FPS counter cause if you notice he moves the camers very slowly to compersate for the choppy performance. I'd be willin to bet that he is getting about 15 - 20 fps maybe at time spiking to 30 -35. But I could be wrong. (wouldn't be the first time)
JohnSK
haha.. not on a 200 MHz CPU.. plus you need lots of memory so that DIII alpha wont stutter - and you can't pack that much in the MB's that support the old CPU's.. so I assume he made fun of you. Or was your post meant to be sarcastic?
Chode
I lie not, and I believe my friend. I called him a filthy stinking liar to his face and all when he said it, but finally believed him after a lot of convincing. It involved something about changing the number of light sources to a much lower figure so it was very dark......and editing a lot of files...I dunno, it's very complicated..... :ninja: btw, the old GF 2MX's were nice cards, this time last year I was still running one. The only difference between it and the GF4MX I owned after it was about 110% fps in UT2003....aka, bugger all.
Fedr0
I lie not, and I believe my friend. You're not the one lying here, your friend is just bull$hitting you, that's it. On my 2.8@3.5 with a 9800 pro I manage to get a good 60-70fps at 1280, with 4xAA and 8xAF. I really doubt a pentium 200 with a GF2 MX'd manage 20 fps. Hell, my server, who was my old machine is a Duron with, guess what, a GF2MX, and when the Doom3 Alpha was leaked I managed to have a good 3-4 fps in 640. Learn a little more about computer, and, expecially, learn how to distinguish when somebody is lying.

Did you stop to think that 0xAA 0xAF with res as low as 640x480 with every detail on lower than minimum and a massive decrease in the number of light sources. YOU learn something, like maybe don't insult people without cause. Idiot
dcook32p
I really don't believe your friend, Chode, can run the Doom 3 demo on a 200 MHz Pentium at 20 FPS. The video card isn't the issue. I believe a GeForce2 MX could easily run Doom 3 if you turn down a lot of the quality settings. It's a matter of CPU capabilities. A 200 MHz Pentium will not be able to compute the necessary physics calculations to run Doom 3 at any reasonable framerate. Make sure your friend isn't running it on a 2,000 MHz Pentium 4 and you misunderstood him.
Fedr0
YOU learn something, like maybe don't insult people without cause. Idiot  Instead of insulting, thing I absolutely did not, try to bring some proofs. As dcook32p said, I simply don't believe what your friend said. It's IMPOSSIBLE for a Pentium 200 to run Doom3. Period. And please don't say idiot to people who didn't insult you. Edit: Oh, btw, it was OBVIOUS I had every detail set to the minimum with a GF2MX.

ANova
I tested Doom 3 on a P4 1.6 with a geforce 2 MX400. About 20 fps average with full graphics. It would slow down to a halt during any action sequences leaving me to believe it is simply not optimized yet. You can also tweak many settings of the game through the cfg. I highly doubt it would run at all on a Pentium 200 though. Unless this friend managed to decrease the level of detail and lighting to something along the lines of Doom 2 quality. Agent Smit
Well I tried to run the alpha on my computer and all I got was a flickering black screen :( Intel PERL865 board Intel P4 2.4C HT enabled Corsair 1024MB PC3200 TwinX GeforceFX 5600 Funny enough it does work on my old computer  Asus P4B Intel P4 1.5 Micron 512MB PC133 Geforce3 Ti200
rezza Veteran Posted February 10, 2004 Veteran Share Posted February 10, 2004 I got a fairly steady 30-40fps on the alpha at 1024x768 with an XP2000+, 768mb ram, and gf4ti4600. That was with no tweaking whatsoever, full details, and as much aa and af as my card could do. So I have high hopes that it'll be able to run pretty well on a wide selection of hardware.
