rezza Veteran Posted February 10, 2004 Veteran Share Posted February 10, 2004 Well I tried to run the alpha on my computer and all I got was a flickering black screen :(Intel PERL865 board Intel P4 2.4C HT enabled Corsair 1024MB PC3200 TwinX GeforceFX 5600 Funny enough it does work on my old computer  Asus P4B Intel P4 1.5 Micron 512MB PC133 Geforce3 Ti200  yeah it stopped working on my machine as soon as i upgraded to DX9... and if i uninstalled DX9 and went back to 8.1 it worked fine again. Remember the alpha was leaked before dx9 even came out...

Ayepecks
I don't see why you all are giving Chode such a hard time. I've managed to run some amazing games on an 8MB videocard and a 400 to 700MHz processor.
Ayepecks
OK: just watched the video and I'm not impressed (or unimpressed). A GeForce 3 is a pretty recent card, and the person didn't even mention his system specs besides that. Not to mention that about 7/8th's of the movie was him standing still, walking extremely slow to avoid FPS crashes and (with the exception of the last scene) firing the slow weapons, I can't say I'm impressed. Looked around 30-40 constant FPS to me, though I could easily be wrong. But I don't find it amazing at all.
Chode
I don't see why you all are giving Chode such a hard time. I've managed to run some amazing games on an 8MB videocard and a 400 to 700MHz processor. Thankyou for the defence, Scorpio. It's good to see that not EVERY person on these forums is a rude bigot. One other point was that my mate was not running it under a native windows environment, but under some windows emulator under linux (I'm not a linux person, so don't ask me technicalities ) I have no reason to distrust him, nor would he have anything to gain by lying to me. If anything, I'll concede that he may have exagerated his average fps (something that we are all guilty of doing)...it was probably closer to 10fps than 20. Saint Dark says he was getting 40 fps on his GF2 Ultra, and I find it highly unlikely for a moderator to be making up crap. Yet I'm not seeing post saying "Saint Dark is a liar" or "Saint Dark's computer is lying to him" or "Processor's back then couldn't handle that much RAM" (I'll have you know that my old computer, a Pentium 233 can safely run my stick of 512MB SDRAM). But for crying out loud, people really need to learn not to be rude, or tell others to ignore peoples posts. It is childish, it is stupid, and.....well, it's just pretty dumb. :(
StAnGeR04
I got a FX 5200 Ultra before I heard about Doom 3 ... now I'm wishing I had waited on a new card ....my old card was a GF 4 MX 440 ... I might have been able to play this |337 d3m0

eXclusive
Just wait, then nVidia will release a better card that will surpass ATi. Then ATi will do the same. Same as AMD and intel

FearMeAll
yeah..those shots didn't impress me. he wasw just standing freakin still the whole time, moving so slow that you could not tell that the game was running at probably 10-15fps. Also, a geforce 3 cannot do FP precision, which directx9 cards do. The ATi cards are using a full ARB2 path that will make the lighting look pretty damn great. There is also a special codepath for the gefart FX's that will use different FP shaders to compensate for it's shoddy DX9 performance. A geforce 3 will run the game without it completely crashing, but it will not be very fun to play with. Unless you just want to stand around and walk really really slow. FearMeAll
it was totaly awesome movie!!! though i doubt it was with gf3 I had a 4200 that could do that easily, and at that rez with no FSAA or ANISO with a ton of ram, then you may be able to get a whopping 15fps, which is what that demo looked like it was doing, even though the author tried to conceal it by moving like a turtle. Still, not a great card to play the game with.

nekrosoft13
probably playing at 640x480 with medium settings with tv-out on, and vcr recording. and like some people said, hes probably gettting about 10-15 fps top and if he gets more, then who would like to play at 640x480, you need a powerful card to play at 1280x1024
