HMD Global completes Android 10 rollout with the Nokia 5.1, re-reveals Android 11 roadmap

HMD Global is finally crossing the finish line with its rollout of the Android 10 update to the lineup of supported Nokia phones. The company began rolling out the update to the Nokia 3.1 yesterday, and CPO Juho Sarvikas promised the Nokia 5.1 would get it today. True to its word, the company is now rolling out Android 10 to the mid-range smartphone introduced in mid-2018.

Like all of HMD Global's update rollout processes before, Android 10 on the Nokia 5.1 is only available in a few select markets for now, and the list is fairly short. The update is rolling out in these countries:

  • Armenia
  • Azerbaijan
  • Belarus
  • Georgia
  • India
  • Kazakhstan
  • Mongolia
  • Ukraine
  • Uzbekistan

It's also not surprising that the update is rolling out in waves in these markets. 10% of users will get the update today, and 50% will have it by October 11. The rollout will be finalized in these markets by October 13.

With the Android 10 rollout finished, HMD Global (through the Nokia Mobile Twitter account), has formally revealed the update roadmap for Android 11. The company had briefly shared the image last week before taking down the tweet, but now it appears to be here to stay. However, nothing has really changed from the initial image posted. The roadmap includes all the company's smartphones released in the past couple of years, going back to the Nokia 8.1 from late 2018. However, smartphones with letters in the names, such as the Nokia C5 and C2, are not included in the roadmap, possibly due to carrier exclusivity.
