Microsoft details the features added to OneDrive in October

Microsoft has detailed the features added and improvements made to OneDrive in the month of October. The list this month is small and includes the enhancements made mainly to the integration of OneDrive with Teams and a new first run experience for the Known Folder Move feature.

The first in the list is the integration with Teams’ file sharing experience. The feature was already detailed in the Teams monthly roundup last month. The new file-sharing capabilities let users tweak access controls right from a Teams chat for files stored in OneDrive or SharePoint. Users can also choose to share a link to the file only with participants in a particular chat.

Another Teams integration comes in the way of storing recorded meetings and calls. OneDrive for Business users can choose to store recordings right into OneDrive or to SharePoint, depending on their preference. This allows for users to share these recordings with external users with desired access permissions. Admins can also set default recording locations for users through PowerShell.

Lastly, the Known Folder Move feature that enables users to automatically backup Desktop, Documents, and Pictures folders to OneDrive is getting a new experience during setup – or first run – that allows users to choose the folders that they wish to sync. This negates the need for users to head into settings and manually change their preferences, and is a nifty addition to the feature.

Other features that are set to make it to the cloud storage service include group sharing, a dark theme for the web offering, a new homepage for the mobile apps, and much more.
