RGB Lighting My Room

Recommended Posts

You know how some people use RGB lighting between their wall and ceiling? I watched 100 videos on YT, BUT...

They never put in WHAT they use to secure it. IMO, the adhesive on the strips isn't that good.. Also they almost never say what they use to turn corners. They do have the parts for it, but you never see them close up using it.

They use double sided-tape? Some kind of connector to go around corners?

Reason I'm doing this is because the fan lights are WAY too bright. It uses some proprietary light bulbs. So It's no easy to just replace them with RGB, range-controllable lights.

If you can give me some highlights on what I need, I thank you. My room is 10' x 11.5'. I prefer to do 3 sides, as one side of the room has a windows. Don't really want to light up my window.

I prefer the color blue, as it's what I have my mechanical board set to, my computer with breathing blue effect. Plus my room is a lighter blue.

Bump. Not to get on top, for people to notice it in Mini Spy.

Edit: Is there also a difference from having it on your ceiling or on the floor?

This is actually what is used for wires 😛 If it is too heavy for tape then you'll need to use (a variation of) these. They come in all shapes and sizes :)

Curious on this - you mean the base size of the bulb, ie the size is odd?  Do you happen to have a model number of the fan?  I take it this is a ceiling fan with lights..

Why can you not just put in a dimmer switch?

What base are the bulbs?

Many fans use if not just E26, E12?  They make adapters for E12 to E26 you could use if you wanted to put in say just normal smart LED RGB Bulbs..  I got lucky that the ceiling fan in my computer room is just standard, I quite often run them dimmed as red.. The red light remind me of nights on ship in the navy ;) heheh... Spaces with hatches that went out on deck always had red lighting at night..

I think it is an E10.

I looked a Menards, but I couldn't find that small of an adapter..

Edit: This is a replacement after my first ones died. Was a problem in the electrical system...

Might be more worth it to get Wi-Fi RGB bulbs than the strips...

Anyone know any brands on Amazon/Newegg/Menards?

I don't know if they make smart bulbs for e12, but they do make adapters.

https://www.amazon.com/JACKYLED-Adapter-5-Pack-Chandelier-Converter/dp/B00L595FA0

But yeah if they make e12 smarts, which seems they do from your link.. That would be an option yes.  If they don't make ones you want - then adapters should also work.

my ceiling fan uses those same size bulbs.

there aren't many smart bulbs in that size but here's the model I have:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07YFTKCQC/

edit: looks like they're unavailable on that listing now but Amazon recommended these as an alternate https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07XZB78J8/ or these https://www.amazon.com/OHLUX-Candelabra-Chandelier-Compatible-Equivalent/dp/B083V19K34/

they're decent but do bug out from time to time where they don't all turn on with Alexa commands and such. I just have to flip the light switch off and back on the reboot them to fix the issue though.

Your other option would be to get an adapter like Budman mentioned but the lights will stick out more and that may not look too appealing depending on the ceiling fan design.

Yeah, I watched a video on those 2nd ones. Looks cool :)

Least it doesn't need a hub like those Phillip ones.

oh god, yeah I avoided having to deal with hubs too when I was setting up my smart appliances at home.

I've got the ones I listed above and a couple Meross smart plugs (1 for the lamp in the living room because it has a lava lamp attached as well, and 1 for a stand alone lava lamp in the bedroom) along with an Aegis smart lock on the front door and my Alexa. Nothing much but a few things for convenience :)

I have the same lights in some lamps(uk) you can buy the smart colour changing ones that do not require a hub. I use them with google home.

these should work from amazon or something similar from what you posted

Yeah, 2nd one Brandon suggested includes 4. ;) Same brand too, so we're OK :D

yeah "Smart Life / tuya app" compatible bulbs are part of a whole ecosystem. so I use switches, heating temperature, robo-vacuum, bulbs etc for around the house without a hub - the only problem is they are usually 2.4g network only. Then I just use Hue+ambilight for the livingroom entertainment center where the additional cost is more justified for a few bulbs rather than 20!

@Brandon HThat 4-pack you suggested to me is not on Amazon anymore. It isn't even listed. Not even "out of order". Brings up a "we cannot find this product" page..

There are no packs that contain four in a pack.

Must've wanted to move that, and my cache didn't update it yet.
