AlexJ
Right. The time has finally come to switch my whole operation to GNU/Linux. I've found suitable replacement apps for most of my esoteric needs: DAW: Ardour and Rosegarden Mastering: JAMin PCB Design: a combi of Dia and some custom built software. There are just a couple of apps left to replace. Dreamweaver 4: I've used this since it was released (though never upgraded) and need a good replacement. It must have the simplicity and power of dreamweaver. Flash 4: pretty much the same as above but this isn't as vital to me and a basic replacement for creating text affects would suffice. DTP: I don't own a DTP program (publisher, pagemaker etc.) however I do need one. Any suggestions. I'll be using abiword for word processing but that's no good for producing newsletters or posters/flyers. So, can anyone help?? I'll be using Red Hat 9 at first, but if you can convince me I might switch to Gentoo :D Thanks Alex
splatnix
If you really want to hold on to your Macromedia apps: Snag wine, and then install Dreamweaver 4. The install for Flash 4 should be the same. I can say that it is quite stable. If you'd like to avoid running Windows apps, then look at this thread for WYSIWYG editing - nvu was released. Looks quite promising. As far as I know, there isn't an opensource Flash editing app. As for a DTP - I've never had a need for it, so I personally don't know of a decent one out there. randomnut
For a dreamweaver replacement, look at www.nvu.com . I KNOW its made by lindows, but its free and has alot of potential. As for a DTP look for Open-Office.org or Star Office, both very good.
AlienThree
Another good DTP is scribus.
AlexJ
I looked at nvu, but it didn't fo much for me and IMHO isn't a ptach on dreamweaver. I followed the link splatnix and downloaded the Crossover Office demo and it supports Dreamweaver no probs :D I checked out Scribus and it seems quite nice. Since I have no real DTP experience I've nothing much to compare it to, but I think it's suit my needs so thanks AlienThree ;) Thanks
