Cyberpunk 2077 1.12 hotfix addresses the mods-related security vulnerability

Earlier this week, CD Projekt RED shined a spotlight on a Cyberpunk 2077 PC security vulnerability discovered by the modding community. This involved custom saves accessing apparent exposed DLL files that the game utilizes. In the original announcement, the studio discouraged users from installing modifications to the game that arrive from unknown sources until a patch comes through.

Only a few days later, that patch has been deployed as promised. The 1.12 hotfix arrived to the PC version of Cyberpunk 2077 today that aims to resolve this latest problem. On Steam, the tiny update is around 1.5MB in size and its short changelog is as follows:

This update addresses the vulnerability that could be used as part of remote code execution (including save files):

  • Fixed a buffer overrun issue.
  • Removed/replaced non-ASLR DLLs.

CD Projekt RED has so far pushed out several updates to its latest RPG following its controversial launch. The biggest of the bunch landed in January, coming with performance improvements across the board alongside various bug fixes. There have been several other hotfixes before this one too, with the studio previously resolving the 8MB save file limit as well as mission-specific blockers.

Looking towards the future, the studio will be pushing out the promised free DLCs as well as the next-gen console update sometime in 2021 as it also works on general game updates and improvements.
