monofonik
What's a good Usenet reader for OS X? All the ones I've downloaded haven't been very good.
Elliott
Unison is the best one I know. It's blossoming into something great. I believe it can't do attachments, but I particularly don't care about that.
the evn show
I like MT-NewsWatcher, i find it handles everything I can throw at it, but the learning curve can be a little steap. Doesn't mozilla thunderbird also have a usenet reader built in?
Tim Dorr Veteran Posted February 12, 2004 Veteran Share Posted February 12, 2004 Yes. I use to access my school's newsgroups because they use a secure connection, and no other reader I know of supports it.
am_fek
Unison has really, really nice file grouping and a pretty nice interface, but the message posting is a little crippled. For starters, when you post a message, it doesn't give any feedback at all that the send was successful, which is a worry because when I download it sometimes tells me there were too many connections to the server etc, so I can never be wholly sure it went until it shows up on the server. Annoying. Also, getting more messages is broken sometimes. After posting a message the other night, it downloaded a copy of my post over and over and over every time I tried to get the latest posts, until I had about six copies of it on my local cache. This is not good either, as until you either try groups.google.com or flush your message cache and start afresh, and coupled with the earlier thing I mentioned about there being no feedback during a send, it's hard to know whether somehow the send screwed up and posted it six times or whether the client is just screwing up and looping the download by mistake. This duplication happens a fair amount, in a group with 100,000+ posts I asked it to download the whole lot and it doubled up on everything I already had, around 60,000 posts, which was highly annoying - seeing two of every other post right beside one another. Unison is probably worth having for the file grouping, but other than that it has some improvements to make. I'm still torn about whether to buy or not.
