bryonhowley
Have a couple questions. Have never had a Mac before. Had some parts given to me. Someone I do computer work for is moving out of town and did not what to move all the computers. Sold everything and kept the IMac. So, What is the best OS version for a 333? Have updated the ram to 512. Got the last 2 sticks of PC100 laptop memory in town! I am running Mac OS 9.2. Is that the best for this IMac. Lastlly does this work good? HARMONI G3 600MHZ 256K BACKSIDE CACHE FIREWIRE PORT One last thing is there a linux disto that works on a IMac. Have tried Gentoo and yellodog and can't get it boot. I am sure I am doing something wrong. Is there a HOW-TO for Linux on a IMac? Edited February 12, 2004 by bryonhowley
the evn show
If you want to run Mac OS then the best version is probably going to be OS (9.2.2) OS X is going to be slow. If you must run os x then 10.3 is the way to go. If you're not so interested in mac os then yellowdog linux is going to be a pretty good choice. amoeba
You are going to want to use the latest version of OS9. X will be horrible. Regarding that upgrade card, I can't say. Check out http://www.MacNN.com for some ideas (reviews).
bryonhowley
Does anybody know how to get yaboot to work? I have tried yellowdog and Gentoo. My IMac will eather lock up on reboot or drop into Open Firmware boot prompt. (Gentoo locks up and yellowdog just go the OF). I had a 800k boot partion acording the the Gentoo guild it was set as partion 2. Yabootconfig finish with out error. But just will not boot. I am sure I am doing something wrong just don't know what. Thanks.
