Today, Lenovo is announcing the Legion Phone Duel 2, its second-generation 5G gaming phone. There's a lot that's been improved here, starting with the obvious inclusion of a Snapdragon 888 chipset. RAM has been bumped up too with up to 18GB LPDDR5, and it comes with up to 512GB UFS 3.1 storage.
Obviously, there's a lot of power in those components, but that's increased by the cooling system. It has a passive cooling vapor chamber, but it also has a Twin Turbo-Fan active cooling system. Indeed, this is a phone that has fans for cooling, and as anyone who cares about performance knows, better cooling means more power.
The 6.92-inch AMOLED screen is 2460x1080, and once again it offers a 144Hz refresh rate to give you that extra few milliseconds of an edge in a game. It also has a 720Hz touch sampling rate.
Another thing that's new is that it has a 44MP pop-up front-facing camera. Indeed, this is once again a focus for Lenovo's gaming phone efforts, and once again, the camera is on the side, as this is meant to be used horizontally. In fact, that camera really isn't designed so much for selfies as much as it's designed for streaming. It also comes with four "AI-optimized" noise canceling microphones to give that streaming session a boost.
The dual battery is 5,500mAh, one of the largest that you'll find in any phone, and it's 10% larger than the one in the previous generation. It also supports 90W wireless charging like its predecessor did, although Lenovo says it's even faster now.
The Legion Phone Duel is coming to China in April and Asia Pacific and Europe in May for €999 with 16GB RAM and 512GB storage, or €799 for 12GB and 256GB. Lenovo says North American availability is to be determined, which is a more positive sign than the original Legion Phone Duel, where Lenovo outright said it wasn't coming.
