HomePod and HomePod Mini will get Lossless audio support

A HomePod Speaker

With the recent announcement of Apple Music introducing Dolby Atmos and Lossless Audio, fans were also disappointed to learn that no product in the AirPod line will be able to playback the audio format in any capacity.

There is some good news for HomePod and HomePod Mini owners. As spotted on Reddit, if you own either device, they are set to get a software update in the future that will let you listen to the new format.

Spotted in the Apple Support page, the company has confirmed that while the AirPod line will not be getting the ability to enjoy the new feature, the HomePod product line will.

Homepod Support For Apple Music Lossless Audio

Even though the AirPod product line and the HomePod's both offer AAC (Advanced Audio Codec) and work through Bluetooth connection, it will only be the smart speakers that will get support for the new audio format.

As of the time of writing this, Apple has yet to offer a first-party solution for listening to Lossless audio on their music streaming service. Perhaps that will change at a future Apple event.

While Apple didn't specify when the update will be pushed to their smart speaker line, we might hear something at WWDC that's set to take place on June 7th, 2021.
