Apple TV is now available on the Nvidia Shield TV

The Apple TV app running on the Nvidia Shield TV

While most of Apple's services tend to be locked into the company's ecosystem, Apple TV has been continuously expanding to more and more platforms, and today, it's arriving on a new one: the Nvidia Shield TV. The streaming box by Nvidia is getting the Apple TV app starting today, with all the features you'd expect.

That includes the Apple TV+ subscription service, which includes some popular shows like Ted Lasso and The Morning Show, and movies like Greyhound. There are also multiple Apple TV channels offered by third-parties, like AMC+, Paramount+, and Starz, which offer other types of content. Support for Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision is also included, so you get both surround sound and up to 4K HDR content. Dolby Vision support was recently rolled out to Apple TV on Microsoft's Xbox consoles, too.

Since the Nvidia Shield runs Android TV, you can also use the Google Assistant with the Apple TV app, asking it to play a specific movie or show, or controlling playback using your voice. Nvidia also boasts its AI-based upscaling technology, which it claims can transform HD content into 4K, assuming you have a compatible TV, of course.

If you're interested in trying out Apple TV on your Nvidia Shield, you can download the app from the Play Store. Nvidia also announced today that those who buy the Shield TV box will get three free months of Priority membership of GeForce Now, the company's cloud gaming service.
