AT&T announced today that it will no longer throttle high-speed data on its Unlimited Elite plan starting this week. The wireless provider is also adding more benefits to the plan at no additional costs for customers.
Prior to this change, customers' access to high-speed data used to be capped at 100GB. This meant that once they hit that data usage in a given month, their access was throttled to slower speeds. With today's announcement, customers will have a truly unlimited high-speed data access no matter their usage. Additionally, AT&T is giving them an extra 10GB of monthly hotspot data on top of their existing 30GB allowance.
In addition, from the previous 1080p of maximum resolution for content streaming, Unlimited Elite subscribers will have access to videos of up to 4K moving forward, including HBO Max content, of course. Customers won't have to do anything to activate the new plan features as AT&T will add them automatically to their current subscription. They will then receive SMS notification once the new benefits have been switched on.
The plan also comes with AT&T's ActiveArmor network security features to automatically block fraudulent calls and send alerts about potential spam risks. It's worth noting that AT&T is not the first carrier to launch this offer; T-Mobile made a similar move earlier this year with its Magenta MAX plan.
