yeah, i want to partition my windows HDD to put linux on half of it. is there a proggy that can do this or will i have to format?

fdisk allows you to partition a harddisk! :pinch:

FDISK allows you to partition a hard disk IF you don't care about its current contents.

Use Partition Magic to resize your Windows partition without losing data (if you have enough free space since you can't squeeze 80GB of data into a 40GB partition).

Then you can add a Linux partition.

There are distros that will resize partitions for you.

I know that Mandrake does (at least FAT), and I have heard SuSE will too (FAT or NTFS, from what I have heard).

mandrake will do ntfs just fine, but make sure you run a good defrag program first (the one with windows might be enough, but I suggest you find a better one).

I suggest the defrag with any resizing of windows partitions.
