krmathis
fdisk allows you to partition a harddisk! :pinch:
sethrd
If you go with Mandrake, or even Red Hat/Fedora, you can use the partition program that comes with the GUI install, or as Solaris said, you can use fdisk.
umerh
Partition Magic is the best for you. It will resize your drive without losing any data on it.
Fred Derf Veteran Posted February 14, 2004 Veteran Share Posted February 14, 2004 fdisk allows you to partition a harddisk! :pinch: FDISK allows you to partition a hard disk IF you don't care about its current contents. Use Partition Magic to resize your Windows partition without losing data (if you have enough free space since you can't squeeze 80GB of data into a 40GB partition). Then you can add a Linux partition.
markwolfe Veteran Posted February 14, 2004 Veteran Share Posted February 14, 2004 There are distros that will resize partitions for you. I know that Mandrake does (at least FAT), and I have heard SuSE will too (FAT or NTFS, from what I have heard).
kongit
mandrake will do ntfs just fine, but make sure you run a good defrag program first (the one with windows might be enough, but I suggest you find a better one). I suggest the defrag with any resizing of windows partitions.
markwolfe Veteran Posted February 14, 2004 Veteran Share Posted February 14, 2004 I suggest the defrag with any resizing of windows partitions. Yeah.. I forgot to mention that... Not only a defrag, but make you you have a good backup, as well!

PseudoRandomDragon
I had horrible luck with Partition Magic. Acronis software works way better.
