Recently, Bethesda — now owned by Microsoft — released Quake for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. The game offers a lot of enhancements like upgraded lighting and resolution, but it didn't take advantage of PlayStation 5 (PS5), Xbox Series S, or Xbox Series X. Luckily, that changed today.

Bethesda just announced that the PS5, Xbox Series S, and Xbox Series X upgrade is now available for free to existing consumers. The team said the following on its website.

We are excited to launch Quake on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PlayStation 5. Anyone who purchased Quake on Xbox One or PlayStation 4 is eligible for a free ... upgrade on the same console family ... Additionally, free upgrades are available to Xbox Game Pass members who have the Xbox Series X or Xbox Series S.

The game runs at 4K resolution and up to 120 frames per second (FPS) on all three consoles. Yes, even the Xbox Series S can render the title at 4K and 120 FPS. However, you'll need a 120 Hz-capable display to see the benefits of the faster frame rate.

Xbox owners will automatically be upgraded to the new version if Quake is installed on a current-generation console. However, PS5 owners will have to go to the store and manually download a new version or a file called "PS5|Full|Quake PS5 Upgrade".

You can purchase Quake through the Microsoft Store or the platform of your choice for $9.99. Xbox Game Pass subscribers can pick it up for $8.99 since it's a part of Xbox Game Pass.
