icyorange
Can you imagine how *slow* they would be on OS X tho, with 128mb RAM! I can imagine that many people will be tempted to buy these as their first Apple machine, but they won't realise how much of a speed increase you will get from upgrading the RAM, so will conclude that all Apple machines are slow. :/ Nick

A G3 with 128MB RAM isn't the best way to experience OS X. I hate people that jump to conclusions so fast.
icyorange
@rAz dA FAz, it's gonna be pretty complex to change the internal drive, and probably pretty expensive, not to mention voiding your warranty. Your best bet is probably to get an external drive, or maybe a 5.25" USB/FireWire enclosure if you already have a spare drive kicking around. Nick EDIT... 200th post :woot: :woot: :woot:

aldo
Guys $900 sounds like a very bad deal for you but: We have 17.5% sales tax, so take that off the $ price. Also, the dollar SUCKS compared to none-asian currencies. South East Asian countries have locked the dollar to their currencies at an exceptionally low rate latley, and this is why exports are so good from asain countries, and also why the US has such a huge trade deficit. A small economics lesson there...
qbie
I'm quite happy because the PCW store I work in is in that "Top 20" stores, so methinks I will be making a purchase in the near future.. q

talizker
It was on the main page (been replaced with INTEL 2.4GHz DVD / CDRW LAPTOP PC). Yesterday afternoon it was showing Out of Stock so I guess they have sold all the allocated amount. You could try finding one of the 20 stores that will be selling the iBook this week... SPeedY_B
Cool, thanks for the update. Out of curiosity, would this be worth buying? I mean with G3 being quite old etc. I've already got my G4 PMac, so I'm not too concerned about it not being the best and realise that it won't be blazingly fast. Just curious if people think it's worth it.
talizker
According to someone on DVD Forums who had theirs delivered today it also includes the Full OSX 10.3 Panther Upgrade making it even better value... SPeedY_B - I would say if you already have a number one machine, this would make a great addition. For portable computing, general OSX applications, Net access, web development etc it's ideal (as long as you take it to 640Mb).
SPeedY_B
Yeah, I looked into that and it's kind of the reason that made me ask. PC133 ram seems to be quite pricey now, more expensive than it's faster DDR counter-parts. Taking it up to 640 would add just under ?100 to the price :\
aldo
I think there are better deals around if you want airport and 640mb RAM - I bought a 14", 800mhz, CDrw/DVD w/ 640mb RAM and an airport card for ?725 off eBay (inc postage) which was 6 months ago... talizker
Yeah, there's no doubt that you can pick up some good bargains on eBay but ?500 (less if you have a voucher) is a good price for a new, with warranty Notebook (especially when it includes the Panter Update...) Lesser spec iBook's still go for arround ?500 on eBay.
sonicwired
Mine arrived today along with Panther. I'm trying to decide if I should upgrade it to Panther now or wait until I get some more RAM for it.
talizker
Oh so sweet and sexy.... ....except the 2 dead pixels and the 1 stuck (on blue) one :( Now need to decided to live with it, exercise my 14 day money back policy or see what Apple can do. Really didn't need this
