Google Workspace now offers an enhanced editing experience in Google Chat on the web

Google Workspace has announced that an enhanced editing experience is coming to Google Chat on the web with the new update. Now, Google Workspace users will be able to add rich formatting to Chat messages, such as underlines, italics, or bold.

Moreover, the update will also allow you to change text color, and add bullet points. Users will also be able to access Rich text through standard keyboard shortcuts. In order to activate rich text editing, you will need to press the "A" icon in the chat compose bar to expand the formatting toolbar.

Earlier on, Chat offered support for markdown characters or plain text only. Now, the latest update will enable users to format their text as required in the compose bar directly. However, you need to keep in mind that if you employ the Format button or keyboard shortcuts to format text, it will cancel any markdown formatting you added to the message. It will keep the copied formatting if you paste formatted text into Chat.

The new update is now available to all Google Workspace users along with G Suite Basic and Business customers. You can also visit the Help Center for more information on how to add formatting to Google Chat messages.
