john smith 1924 Veteran Posted February 17, 2004 Veteran Share Posted February 17, 2004 Its a custom system essentially. If you want something reasonably similar try phpnuke.

Steven
The neowin news system has a story behind it from my memory serves me well the guy who wrote the neowin news script software "tingle" was a long standing member of neowin for a while, then the admins and him departed where he went and stared to bulild VirtuaNews. Leaving neowin with his script work, yet since that time its been overhauled by Redmak (with maybe some help from Timdorr too  ) pretty much.. So don't go download "VirtuaNews" and think you're getting what Neowin is using because you're not. News script by Tingle, maintained by Neowin.net ? 2000-2004 That is posted at the bottom of the front page here. Tim Dorr Veteran Posted February 17, 2004 Veteran Share Posted February 17, 2004 Leaving neowin with his script work, yet since that time its been overhauled by Redmak (with maybe some help from Timdorr too  ) pretty much. From what I understand, just about all of Tingle's code has been replaced by some hard work from Redmak. Digital Oracle also contributed some speed improvements to the comments page. I've just completed some more improvements that should have a big impact of the rendering of that page (I got the "Saddam Captured" news item, with it's 509 comments, down from 7.2 seconds rendering time to 0.30 seconds rendering time). With any luck that will help out with server loads a bit.

Adem
So don't go download "VirtuaNews" and think you're getting what Neowin is using because you're not. it will do, scene as though it looks like tingle from virtuanews has wrote it out, but does anyone know howto customise a theme, its really hard :(

Tim Dorr Veteran Posted February 18, 2004 Veteran Share Posted February 18, 2004 :| damn what did you do to the code to get that! Removed a redundant loop on an array for every parent comment. Basically, I turned it from an O(n^2) algorithm to a O(2n) algorithm. I'd like to get it to O(n) (or O(1) with caching :D ), but I think I've already made a big enough dent ;)
