Very small distro with Firefox?

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a tiny distro that does not have dozens of pre-installed apps (like office suites).

I downloaded the latest version of Porteus. If you're familiar with this distro, apps are called
modules. I also downloaded Firefox (firefox.xzm) and used AnyBurn to inject this module
into the ISO. I've used AnyBurn many times to edit image files. It's a very useful app.

Modules for Porteus:
http://dl.porteus.org/x86_64/current/modules/

AnyBurn:
http://www.anyburn.com/

Porteus runs as a virtual machine (VirtualBox). Firefox is listed as an "active module" in
Porteus, but it will not run. I own a business, and cannot devote hours or days trying to
determine why FIrefox won't run.

There is tiny distro called SliTaz. A build with Firefox is listed below (slitaz-4.0-firefox.iso).
Look at the date. It's ten years old!

http://mirror.slitaz.org/iso/4.0/flavors/

All I need is a small distro with a button or menu that launches a recent version of Firefox.
If it's available, I can't find it.

Tails is 1.3GB and portable (can also be installed on a PC). It includes Tor browser I think which is based off Firefox ESR https://tails.boum.org/install/index.en.html it is also maintained, so up to date with security patches, so long as you keep the portable version on your USB stick updated.

Err... You do realize that is an old and unsupported version of SliTaz, right?

SliTaz does not release stable release model ISOs any more, only rolling release model ISOs.

The is the the page you actually want, which was last updated slightly over a month ago:

DSL (Dam Small Linux) comes to mind, but they are discontinued.

TCL (Tiny Core Linux) also comes to mind.

You could always make your own, based off Debian, Arch, etc. Just installl the base, and grow up from there..

I know the OP specifically wanted 'small' but I think a good balance of things is Mint v21.0-Xfce (2.2 GiB (2,415,585,280 bytes)) as it's not too bloated but not TOO light as if you go too light then too many things are stripped from it. I would say that's probably roughly medium-weight if you compare to the 'bloated' to the 'very light' variations.

but Mint in general is a pretty good distro out-of-the-box. it's one of the safer choices for Linux in general.

but it's your call ;)

When I posted this message, I wondered if anyone would reply. I just started into the
"wonderful world of Linux distros" about five weeks ago. I really appreciate all your
replies.

OK moriel5, I see all those 2022 SliTaz builds. I attempted to register with SliTaz Forum.
They were suppose to email a password seconds after I registered. I've been waiting
for three days.

"slitaz-rolling-core-5in1.iso" looks like a good build to try. I have two questions. Is there
a specific Firefox file I should download for SliTaz? For example, I downloaded firefox.xzm
for Porteus. When I open the ISO with AnyBurn, where do I inject Firefox? (I need the
folder name.)
