IT Minister Richard Alston described the report as "confused" and not taking into consideration issues such as "affordability". The 50-page lobby paper, The Way Forward, was presented to Senator Alston last week by Microsoft Australia managing director Paul Houghton, who admitted its release was timed to coincide with the first parliamentary session of 2002 this week. ...It was important for companies such as Microsoft to create mechanisms so intellectual property developed in Australia could remain here. Telstra - the document's major target - defended its role in developing telecoms infrastructure.
