Windows XP BSOD!

Recommended Posts

I think that is the BSOD I got from Windows XP the first time I ever attempted to un-install Via 4in1 drivers(I learned my lesson now, I refuse to even install Via 4in1s cause they always screw something up in XP) . I also got that BSOD when I moved my hard drive to another comp and booted up Windows XP to restore some corrupted files on another machine. I got the BSODs on boot up, it was caused by the stinking Via IDE controller driver.

Have you updated your motherboards' BIOS recently? It is possible that after you flashed your BIOS XP is crashing because the IDE controller IRQ may have changed.

Or it could be the complete opposite, you may need the latest BIOS for your mobo because alot of Via chipset mobos have updated BIOSes available to fix Via+XP+GeForce problems and other misc Via+XP problems.

My specs are:

PIII 800mhz

256 SD-RAM

Abit VH-6 Via chipset

GeForce 3 ti 200

I didn't do anything new nor installed something new.

Just got this stupid BSOD from time to time.

You should update your BIOS and re-install XP(clean install). More than likely most of your problems will no longer exist after you do that. Like I said in the previous post, mobo manufactures have released alot of BIOS updates to fix XP problems with thier mobos(especially thier Via chipset mobos).

I had to update my ECS K7VZA Bios to 3.4 to get rid of my infinate loop problems and my bad IDE performance in XP.

that's the point of updating. You get new features as well as getting rid of the old ones. You should back up this BIOS you use now though because you might get new problems as well. Make sure you read all instructions carefully and good luck.

When did you start getting these BSODs? You should remove some hardware and just leave the Video card and then slowly put them back in to see which one causes that BSOD. I've never had a BSOD in XP. All that BSOD means though is that your IRQs are conflicting in some way that the BIOS can't handle but it's not a conflict that XP detects at first since the BIOS reports everything being ok.
