HP Omen Gaming Hub Cleaner? Smart to Run or Waste of TIme

Question

Hello All

Decided to try using this HP Omen Gaming Hub Cleaner portion on my Omen 15 Gaming Laptop,  and it's been in scanning mode for hours now, and some reason  isn't even done yet.

No idea why taking so long on that system at all

((Thought pretty typical of That PC to take hours, even does with Malwarebytes Premium Full scan(when i first bought Malwarebytes for Christmas, tried to run 1 full scan with it,  Laptop PC took 7 hours, and still wasn't done,   ended up cancelling it then, might try again at some point)

C Nvme Free Space currently

39GB, Used 77Gb our just about,  (128GB C  Drive)

1Tb Storage drive

More Free space

Sometime soon gonna get the battery replaced by local shop, as it seems to drain awfully fast these days,  despite i vary how i use the system,   some days on Battery a few hours,  and some days on A/C if i know i'm gonna game that day or do a long task,     When i do get the battery replaced, if funds allow gonna do the following upgrades at same time while shop has it open---M.2 NvMe drive minimum 500GB to 1TB drive,    Upgrade 1TB storage drive to 1TB Sata SSD,   and if can afford Memory upgrade to 16GB at same time then will do that

Shop diagnostic Fee $45.00

New Battery Fee unknown on that yet

or The new drive fees i still gotta check on

System is HP ce_019dx (purchased December 2017)

HPs gaming stuff is interesting...and also wack.  I have no idea why anyone would use their software at this point.

But yes, getting rid of the hard drive should do wonders.  Should things take that long?  Probably not.  Knowing HP builds just enough to not really trust them I suspect the drive is getting very hot and throttling.

Yes it might be getting very hot.  I finally stopped that HP software thing, it never finished after 8 hours lol, i was like forget it,  did basic disk cleanup,  cleaned system files,  cleaned temp files

Heck the I7 Processor could be Throttling all i know

Getting rid of the hard drive as soon as possibly can

It takes long to finish Malwarebytes scans as well, and Defender lol

I did try to open it once myself, but despite my screwdriver i was using from my PC tool kit, worked fine on all other 9 screws,  when it got to the 10th Screw--no budge at all, i may have stripped it, but i was like geez that screwdriver worked perfect on all other 9 screws.

Think its best shop just gets it open now, and takes care of it soon as i can,  as maybe after they do the first opening, my screwdriver will work fine for second opening if need to in the future

Might buy for birthday Ifixit toolkit, instead of my current off brand one

Most likely the cooling fans might be dusty as it's never been opened since 2017, despite i wanted to clean it many months ago, but not easy to get open lol, guess i should've checked that out sooner than this year lol

When I replaced the HD in my Omen build it was the best thing I ever did to a machine.  I still can't use it for heavy gaming (which it is technically capable of) because it's so incredibly loud, though.

I think it's a 2018 build but I don't know which (it's in my trunk and it's cold in the garage, hah)

I don't even know what that is but chances are it's a waste of time. I generally avoid running excess programs like CCleaner etc as I used to do a bunch of that crap in the old days. but after a while you realize it's largely a waste of time.

basically just clean install Windows 10 from time-to-time (maybe once every 3 years or so) and then just be careful on what you do with the computer and chances are it will stay in good running order for years.

Unless portability is a big concern, I would avoid laptops in general as desktops are pretty much superior across the board short of portability and they are much easier to work on to which is another big plus as when a laptop goes bad (unless it's something simple like HDD) you are pretty much screwed and I hear many modern laptops just doing basic stuff like swapping hard drive is a huge pain etc which is all the more reason to avoid them if possible as at least older laptops one could at least get access to the HDD and RAM areas without much effort.

Unless you got a lot of data that needs to load from a really fast drive I would just leave the 500GB SSD as-is and just get one of those USB3 docking stations so you can just connect regular 2.5" (laptop) and 3.5" (desktop) hard drives to it. probably give you A LOT more space for a solid price. I got a 'renewed' 6TB HGST hard drive not all that long ago for basically $60.

even the 8GB of RAM (I am assuming you have at least this much currently) to 16GB of RAM upgrade, depending on price and what you do, may or may not be worth it. but overall it's a better way to spend $ than upgrading from 500GB SSD to say a 1TB SSD drive.

but for general storage... regular hard drives are still superior to SSD based storage overall since you tend to get a lot more storage space for similar price and since it's a spinning platter it's more likely to give you some level of warning before it just dies where as a SSD might work great, but when it fails it could be sudden and not to mention the price alone would push me away from general storage on a SSD device. sure, a SSD is great for a boot drive but beyond this I would avoid them and stick to regular hard drives.

hell, you might be able to get a RAM upgrade for that much (or not all that much more the last I knew) as when I went from 8GB of RAM (2x 4GB) to 16GB of RAM (2x 8GB), of which I bought the RAM used on Ebay, I basically paid $45 for it.

Well Laptop originally was purchased in 2017 to Be Backup Machine to Desktop,    it was almost same specs as older Desktop which i upgraded in June 2020,   definitely see the differences in terms of performance nowadays between Laptop and Bigger Desktop lol.

Typical Games played on Laptop via Epic Games is Lawn Mower Simulator,  Need For Speed Most Wanted (Given Free on Origin back in 2012 lol)    and Wreckfest at times,  Sometimes Secondlife,   don't use it for heavy games, all the heavy games ran on Desktop machine most of the time

Yes i had an older laptop many years ago and that one was much easier to open, but was lower specs than this one.       This one a major pain to get open and access internal components

Current M.2 In Laptop is only 128GB Boot drive

and 1TB storage drive currently in use in there

Planning on doing a Clean Windows 10 Install on it soon here, unknown exact day or time yet, but last one was think 2018 on Laptop lol, so definitely overdue for one

((Honestly since upgrading Desktops CPU Cooler in May 2022,  haven't even done a clean install on the bigger machine as yet))  May do Laptop first,  then maybe Desktop as well a week or so after perhaps)  as i did run Intel Extreme Tuning program in the past to manage cpu temps with Stock Cpu cooler at the time, believe got it all uninstalled fine--but thinking now a clean install for even the Desktop might be a good thing to get done as well soon as can)

One Question related to Clean Installing Laptop and this topic

do I need to deactivate before i do the clean install Windows Defender for Individuals?    Currently using that on Windows 11 Desktop,  Laptop and Android Phone

Watch i don't even really need this little applet lol,  but dummy me installed it anyhow when it released  due to having MS Office 365 Family subscription i was like yeah why not install it

but if i don't need it might leave it out after the clean install maybe
