PowerBook Updates. When?

Recommended Posts

Updated PowerBooks Tomorrow, I say.

I've kept an eye on the PowerBooks they have in Stock at several CompUSA locations, and according to CompUSA.com the following stores are out of stock or have dangerously low quantities of PowerBooks:

El Paso, Texas

Dallas, Texas

Houston, Texas

Las Vegas, Nevada

New York, New York

San Francisco, California

Also, ClubMac only has 64 12" ComboDrive PowerBooks in Stock. (ClubMac usually has several hundred units in stock, sometimes close to a thousand)

Most of these stores have absolutely no PowerBooks in Stock, which leads me to believe that updates are due very, very soon. I doubt CompUSA or Apple could afford more than a few days on a dangerously low supply of PowerBooks.

Besides, my birthday is tomorrow, so it has to be :D

I read an article on MacRumors not too long ago about how Apple is temporarily cutting off supplies to resellers while they fill education orders or something to that effect.

I go to UCI and they are offering and additional 250 off of 15.2" powerbooks. So the usual price of 2299, is now 2049. Maybe they will announce updates sometime this month. :D

Apple currently have a promotion going on for a lot of their stock, which ends at the end of May so I would expect to hear something mid-end of may :)

Or at the WWDC ;)

I feel your pain, well sort of. My parents forbid from buying another computer part until the summer. I was ready to order a G5 powermac and they stopped me . I know its for the best (especially since I decided a laptop would much better suit my needs), but I just hope that we still aren't waiting for G5 (or even new G4) powerbook revisions in August-September.

Gah. No Updates Today.

Everyday I am tempted to give up the wait and buy a current 12" PowerBook but I know I will regret it :ermm:

if you're gonna get a 12" PB, i say get it now. i just don't think Apple will throw a G5 into the 12" model. :D

they might light the keyboard up and bump the processor up to 1.25 or higher... possibly even 2.0GHz

i would hope stretch the 12" powerbook to 13" with a res of 1152x768... then the difference between a ibook and powerbook would be more clear.

2.0 GHz on a 12 in. powerbook? Hope it brings sum kevlar lap-rest for your lap, and a cooking book with some great recipes that you can try on your left-palm rest in ur new multi-use powerbook. Seriously, now way you are ever gonna see 2.0 G4 on anything, by the time moto comes out with 2.0 G4s Apple would be using G5s accross most of its line.

Now that the eMac is more powerful than the iMac (only 256k cache on iMac) and faster than the pb's (faster hdd), I wonder if the next iMac/PowerBook updates will be 1.4-1.Xghz (1.8 or 1.6 max I assume) G5's or if they will put a 1.42 into the 20" iMac and 17" pb and 1.33 in the rest of each prospective line. Personally I would like the G5 to make it into these two lines, but for some reason I don't think that apple will make my wish come true before summer.

i suggest just going for it. look on ebay and maybe find a good one that's only a few months old. that's what i did - i got a pimped out 1ghz 12" PB, with superdrive, 768mb RAM, etc for 1250. so you can find a good deal, and have something that's not totally 'cutting edge', and save a lot of cash.

According to Appleinsider.com:

Confirming previous reports, sources with an unblemished track record tell AppleInsider that Apple is preparing to announce new versions of its consumer iBook and professional-grade PowerBook next week.

In all, the company is expected to debut 8 new laptop configurations. Two new 12-inch PowerBooks will reportedly carry model numbers 'M9183ll/A' and 'M9184ll/A', while revised 15-inch models are being referenced by model numbers 'M9422ll/A' and 'M9421ll/A.' A single high-end 17-inch PowerBook G4 configuration is referenced by sources as 'M9462ll/A.'

In addition, Apple will also refresh its fast selling iBook product line. Two new 14-inch configurations are listed by sources as 'M9418ll/A' and 'M9419ll/A.' Meanwhile, a single 12-inch configuration is said to carry model number 'M9426ll/A.'

According to sources, Apple is expected to announce the new portables simultaneously on Monday, April 19th. All models are said to feature faster G4 processors and improved graphics capabilities.

I believe people are expecting G5 on PB, not just some G4 updat:):)

I'm expecting G4 Updates.

Even a slight update would be good, I just don't like the idea of buying a 211-day old Notebook.

I want a better Video Card on the 12" PowerBook, one that can at least run UT2004. FireWire800 and a Backlit Keyboard would be nice too.
