Lcd screen on ibook

Recommended Posts

I'm looking forward into buying an ibook 12" ( yeah I never tought this day would come but I'm thinking about the switch ).

The only problem is that i'm not sure if my Samsung 192n lcd screen will work with it, i've looked in apple's website and it says that it come bundled with a vga adaptor.

By the way the lcd has a DVI connection and comes with an DVI to VGA adaptor.

I'd like to know if that all I need to connect my screen to the ibook.

thanks

iBooks only support screen mirroring, not using 2 monitors at the same time.

That is, unless you hack the Firmware... which I've done, but it cuts your VRAM in half so Quartz Extreme effects will be slower (well, with 16MB each, I doubt you'll notice, but when it cuts my 16MB in half, it gets nasty).

oups , I've just checked on apple's website it's called SDRAM so-dimm ... so it should be like any other laptops right ?

(edit)

never mind found the answer :

Important: Double data rate SDRAM is closely correlated with your computer's processor. Use PC2100 DDR266 SO-DIMM for 133Mhz system bus iBooks You should purchase DDR-SDRAM SO-DIMMs that have been tested and approved for your system. If you don't purchase memory directly from Apple, be sure to check with the third-party manufacturer to verify compatibility before purchase.

You can go to higher resolutions...

Note that if you buy a G3 iBook, it's PC100 SDRAM SoDIMMs or PC133

G4 iBook is DDR SoDIMMs

And the actual max RAM that can be added is 1GB, if you get a 1GB SoDIMM... Not officially supported by Apple, but, will work fine...

The screenspanning hack for the iBooks works perfect, it took me like 3 trys to get it to work (and like a day latter an auto patcher came out, lol) but it works great :p

Where did you get this autopatcher? It would be *very* helpful... :shifty:

If you output an ibook display to an external screen, can you increase the resolution or is it stuck on 1024x768?

The iBooks screen is, the the other screen will go up to whatever it supports ;)

I just used the instructions that are on the very bottom of the page. A few days latter the c't website made an apple script to do it. I have never seen that doctor app before, it probably works fine.

You can open .sit files on windows to, just download stuffit and take a look inside ;)

From what I read, the AppleScript thing doesn't work in Panther, and I even ran it myself to no luck... so you'll have to do it manually (like I eventually did) and it's not a difficult thing to do at all.
