Running things at shutdown

Recommended Posts

I'm using XP and I know there is some sort of batch file or location to store a shortcut that will be executed when I shutdown my system.

Anyone know of where this is or how I can do this otherwise?

I have a plan for a dynamic signature image, I want to include some system stats and the like, but when my machine goes off, red x's are quite the problem. So, I am going to host a script on my webhost. When I have a certain file present, it will redirect the requests to my local machine, when it's not there, it'll rely on a backup images. I wanted to run a small batch file to switch this file when my machine shuts down, in addition to when it starts up.

Thanks for any ideas in advance!

You can do this through Group Policy, run MMC and add the Group Policy snap-in to the MMC Console. From there you can navigate to:

Computer Configuration/Windows Settings/Scripts (Startup/Shutdown)

or

User Configuration/Windows Settings/Scripts (Logon/Logoff)
