semifamous
Two different computers: Both running Firefox 0.8. I prefer Neowin Lite to the regular theme. No pictures is fine with me. But I've got TBE set to auto-reload every 600 seconds. And when it reloads (usually the second or third time,) Neowin is back to the normal default theme. If it were just one computer, then I would know that my computer is messed up, but it's on two. Any ideas? Something I might try on my end? Or are the admins aware of the issue? Something on the server side?
Joel
If you talking about the Main Page, after choosing the lite theme, click the big N logo again. This should set the cookie to Lite.
semifamous
I'm trying that now. The cookie is getting set, because after I click on "Switch to Lite," (which opens in a new tab, since the main tab is locked,) refreshing www.neowin.net gives me the lite version. Then a few minutes later, it's back to the full version again. I'm trying your suggestion. I'll post again if it doesn't work. I don't think it will work, but we'll see... [edit] Ya, it didn't work. Can anyone else duplicate it? Switch to Lite on the main page, then go back to neowin.net (without the ?lite=1) part. It should remember that you're using the Lite version. About 5 to 10 minutes later, hit Refresh. It should keep the Lite version. If not, then I'm not as crazy as I think I am... :) [edit #2] It seems that the switching back to the full version is triggered when I go to a page on the forum. Try that. Switch to lite, then go somewhere on the forum, then go back to the home page. [edit #3] (OK, maybe not...) Still looking for ideas tho. Maybe it has to do with posting? So Switch to lite, then come back here and post. Then go back to the home page and see if it's still lite. If it is, then edit your post and let me know. If it's not, then edit your post and let me know... Edited February 20, 2004 by semifamous
semifamous
Um, grr. It still doesn't want to remember my setting. Am I the only one this happens to?
[ timko ]
Well, I just loaded up Firebird on WinXP and Fedora Core 1 and did this to test... 1) on https://www.neowin.net clicked on "Switch to Lite" 2) clicked on links to read comments for posted news stories 3) returned to the mainpage by clicking "Main page" in the top right of the page under the "Windows Book" (next to the game controller) icon 4) lite them retained, repeat from above but with different comments section (ie for another news item) several times Result. Neowin lite retained EVERYTIME under both WindowsXP and Fedora Core 1. Have you been fuggin' about with the cookie settings in either... a) Firefox b) your software firewall c) any anti-spyware/adware programs that you've got running To negate the second 2 possibilities above, try repeating what you did under Firebird in IE on the same system you tried before. I know you can't set auto-reload in IE, in which case just either manually reload or do what I did (Y)
