digitallaughter
Why don't you just go ahead and physically smash your machine? Installing Linux will render it unusable, so you might as well turn your computer into a brick the quick and easy way instead of going through the hassle and stress of using awful software to do it.I suggest a nice hammer, and maybe a chisel for good measure. Remember to disconnect the power and the battery. If you cant say anything nice, dont say anything at all....
procrastinatron
28 posts, and what a mouth!!! It's sad nowadays.... So the value of someone's words depends on how many times they've posted on this rinkydink site? I guess you shouldn't even read this one then huh. Oops, you just did. markwolfe Veteran Posted February 20, 2004 Veteran Share Posted February 20, 2004 I'm a little new to linux. I have messed around with Redhate,Mandrake and some other distros. Anyway I have a 800mhz dell inspiron 4100 laptop that has no cdrom. And windows decided to die. (the reason it has no cd rom is that died too). Anyway It has a NIC card and a floppy drive so I was wondering how I could install linux of my home network. Any distro is good. Hey, I am really sorry to get this thread back on-topic, but a great distro to install via network is SuSE. They have a downloadable boot image, and the rest is instal via FTP. Sounds pretty handy in your situation. I now return this thread back to the chaos already in progress...

Either SuSE, which might run a little sluggish with the default install on your system, or go with a Debian net install.

markwolfe Veteran Posted February 21, 2004 Veteran Share Posted February 21, 2004 It seems to support booting from floppy: http://sdb.suse.de/sdb/en/html/lmuelle_sus...x_internet.html You will need a boot floppy, and one or two extra floppies to get the real work done (so it appears). splatnix
Check these out, as long as you have a Windows PC to make the floppies: SuSE 9.0: Read the README on how to make the floppies. Figure out what module disks (if any) you might need on top of the 1 bootdisk floppy. To make the floppies on a Windows PC, you'll need rawwritewin: Get it here. kongit
I use slackware on a my laptop and it is great, however it took me a long time to get it working the way I like it. I suggest an easier to use distro if you don't use linux. it does work great though.
