Do you want the Customizing Linux section?

Should Neowin have a 'Customising Linux' catagory?? (like 'customizing windows' and 'customizing mac') ?

Right... there's a customising Windows catagory, and a Customizing Mac catagory.... and I'm like, what, Neowin still doesn't have a Customising Linux catagory???

We need a proper place to post our linux-leanining wallpapers, our login screens, our themes (i.e. Gnome, KDE, or other window managers), and all of the other stuff that gets posted in the windows catagory, like icons and stuff.

I mean, more than three-quarters of the binaries on my computer don't even HAVE icons!!!

And I think that people really WOULD post all this stuff on customizing linux, 'cept there's not really a proper place to put it!

Common, am I insane? Or do you agree?

Comments? Flames?

I'm not sure one is needed...

Linux is all about customizing. Windows really isn't, so people who use Windows really need an additional category just for customizing.

Plus, the traffic in the Linux forum really isn't over-capacity (as far as I know). Perhaps a mod could tell us where this forum sits in relation to the others as far as traffic goes.

Well, if you go by post count it's a pretty popular forum. It's got 24000+ posts.

According to the post/thread count, we are behind the Mac and Windows forum but I'll talk to Kel and the admin about it and see if we can work something out for you guys :) Keep voting.

Hmmm.... Does the superior quality of the posts in the Linux forum carry any additional weight? :D

Lets not get there :p I'll talk to Kel and the admin about this. Keep voting for now ;)

Sure why not, certainly couldn't hurt. Another place to to find customizing stuff is never bad.

We have to becareful with the forum structures, we wouldn't want to have too many sub-forum and have the place turned into a maze for the new guys :p

agreed, but as i am an eye candy geek (spending half of my spare time hunting down eye candys for my startup screen, my login-manager, my splashscreen,... [and the other half recompiling stuff considered unstable to get in new features and even more speed]) i really like the idea :woot:

1 affirmative selection, and 4 negative. Strange choices.

Anyway, I think this is a great idea. I like seeing what people can come up with. Maybe some original styles.

Great great great great great idea :)

Especially if people start making themes like rezza's orbital :D

BTW, Mr. Static Void, love your sig. Too bad it's in java though. Mwahahaha =)

I'm all for it. It'll allow those of us in a *nix-centric world to see what others are doing. Rezza's orbital, Vidar's Fedora Wallpapers, and all those other pretty UNIX/Linux.. erm.. things.. that get created by other Neowinians.

And like it was said before - another place to get eye candy is always a good thing.

Yup... I think its a great Idea.... I have a few ideas of projects I'd like to get started with soon, and a neowin customizing *nix section would be an excellent catalyst for the ol' creativity process...
