baphomet_irl Veteran Posted February 14, 2002 Veteran Share Posted February 14, 2002 thats very cool rzolkos, I think Active Desktop has been stigmatized because win9x wasnt stable enuff to handle it, but on 2k it seemed to run ok - maybe ill give it a go again :D

DotNetZed
OK. To put HTML "panels" on your desktop with custom content. 1. Right Click your desktop and select Properties 2. Then select the Desktop tab 3. Then press the Customize Desktop button 4. and then the Web tab. From there you can add/edit/delete "active desktop items" simply by typing a url. HTH
AuRe
but then u talk about a home page, but we see in the shoot are elemts from the web, google search, neowin news etc... So one could think that is a custom html? or is a wallpaper with html elements? Thanks
DotNetZed
There are 3 web pages displayed on my desktop pictured above. One is a Google Search bar that I wrote. It's pretty cool 'cos you can search for news and images from the same search box simply by adding an i or a n to your searches. The other two web pages are the "panels" - One for slashdot and one for neowin. I can position these whereever I want using Active Desktop.

+Anarkii Subscriber² Posted February 16, 2002 Subscriber² Share Posted February 16, 2002 hehe thanks mate yeah it took a bit of troubleshooting to get working but when it did finally get workin as u can see, worked like a dream. as for tutorial, well i myself dont know how to get the latest things from neowin showing on the desktop itself (im sure if u asked in the programming forum here someone will help you out) but for the simple desktop like what I got its not all that hard to do. Just look on the web for a background, then draw it on paper, then draw on that paper where you want content to go, and simply load up dreamweaver, frontpage etc and put things in place using layers (thats what I personally like) :p basically what im sayin is find the background, then build your active desktop "around" that background. Get help for whatever you want to do with the desktop from the forums here, Alot of people will help you out if u ask :)
