New awesome game demo for Linux!

Recommended Posts

It's a couple days late, but there's a game that now has a working Linux Demo released. It's UFO: Alien Invasion.

A blurb from About explains is better than I could:

UFO: ALIEN INVASION is a strategy game featuring tactical combat against hostile alien forces which are about to infiltrate earth at this very moment. You are in command of a small special unit which has been founded to face the alien strike force. To be successful on the long run, you will also have to have a research team study the aliens and their technologies in order to learn as much as possible about their technology, their goals and the aliens themselves.

'UFO: Alien Invasion' is heavily inspired by the 'X-COM' series by Mythos and Microprose. The first game of the series, 'UFO DEFENSE', became a classic and, in our honest opinion, is one of the best games ever made. 'UFO: Alien Invasion' is neither a sequel nor a remake of 'UFO DEFENSE' - we simply had the urge to create a similar strategy game, which will hopefully be as entertaining as the original was for the players (and for the developers, of course ;) ).

Now, I'm a massive fan of the X-COM series of games (UFO Defense being the best IMHO), owning the collectors set, and having played all the games through numerous times.

I know it's only a demo (still playable!), but it shows what we can expect from the future. There is a Forum available, which houses the FAQ and Forum on the Technical Demo. All I can really say is check it out!

wow...and while playing and watching my roomie play Disgaea, I got an urge to emulate X-Com: Apocalypse and play that...

maybe I'll give this a shot instead

X-COMmers unite! :woot:

It's pretty sweet that the development of this has come along so well. Everyone on their forums agrees that there stills needs to be tweaks with the AI and continued modifications (I wanna obliterate cars and buildings!), but considering this is being developed by the gamers, and not the studios, this is phenominal! We need more projects like this - but I REALLY wanna see UFO developed as far as they can take it - it's just damned FUN!
