What is WinLinux?

Recommended Posts

Just ran across THIS site.

Win Linux 2003. What in the world is it?

Anyone ever used it. I don't remember seeing mention of it

on the Debian site or other distro lists.

Supposedly you can install it on a Windows machine just like any other Windows app?????

What good is that? Anything running under Windows would be just as

vulnerable to Windows attacks, viruses or failures as Windows is.

Anybody know?

Is this a gag site like mslinux.org?

Your linked site has MySQL errors on it when I looked, so could not get a good look at it.

Their only working comment:

WinLinux 2003 was designed and built to be the easiest to use Linux system. Its installation and configuration tasks are performed directly from Windows using graphical tools.

If you have always wanted to have a powerful and reliable system on your computer, WinLinux 2003 was made for you.

If you want to enter the Open Source world, WinLinux 2003 is the easiest path.

Seems to have some logical problems...

How is adding Linux as an app on top of Windows supposed to be "a powerful and reliable system on your computer"?

And running it on a very proprietary system is hardly a way to "enter the Open Source world".

It installed on the C:\ drive; then you booted into DOS where you'd launch a batch file to start Winlinux.

That site has a lot of problems.

Yeah... I'm not sure if I would try software from a company that can't keep a webpage from being broken over 24 hours. :pinch:

Back in 2001 it was a very nice system. You didn't need to partition you hd cause it used fat32. Therefore it was ofcourse slow. one of the coolest feautures was that you could change your linux hardware settings inside of windows. So that saved you a lot of time with configuration.

Nowadays with thing like knoppix a distro like this isn't needed anymore. That's why the project is abandoned.
