Steven P. Administrators Posted June 18, 2024 Administrators Share Posted June 18, 2024 So I just upgraded from Windows 10 to Windows 11 23H2 because several Store programs wouldn't start anymore in 10, so I needed a clean install anyway, and I have this odd bug where if I drag something from Phone Link app to anywhere on the desktop I want, it is insteads auto arranged under the Recycle Bin grid of icons. Auto arrange is off: This is where I wanted to drag it, just next to the Phone Link window. Is this another broken feature of Windows 11? Steven P. Administrators Posted June 18, 2024 Author Administrators Share Posted June 18, 2024 That does not matter, ticked or unticked is the same. cork1958
See what you get for "down grading" your system! 🤣 Really though, I liked Windows 11 for the short time I used it. goretsky Supervisor Posted June 19, 2024 Supervisor Share Posted June 19, 2024 Hello, Out of curiosity, have you tried running the System File Checker (filename: SFC.EXE), just in case it is some kind of issue with damaged permissions? Regards, Aryeh Goretsky Link to comment https://www.neowin.net/forum/topic/1442775-unable-to-drag-and-drop-files-where-i-want-on-windows-11-desktop/#findComment-598911014 Share on other sites
Steven P. Administrators Posted June 19, 2024 Author Administrators Share Posted June 19, 2024 @goretskythis issue happened directly after clean installing Windows 11 23H2. It somewhat works now, but the Download folder keeps resetting to the awful Grouped view. goretsky Supervisor Posted June 19, 2024 Supervisor Share Posted June 19, 2024 Hello, Ah, I thought it was an in-place upgrade from Windows 10. Here's a PowerShell script you can try:as well as a program by the same author that you can use to change the grouping on the Downloads directory. PowerShell script (see Option #4 in the discussion) WinSetView Hopefully, one of them will work for you.
