jlund
Hey everyone. My iBook sleeps when I close it and I don't want it to. I tried a program called "NoSleep" but it said my kernel wasn't up to date and there aren't any updates for my iBook. What's the best way to do what I want? Perferaly I want it to only not sleep when it's plugged in and is closed. Thanks in advance.
Si Veteran Posted February 26, 2004 Veteran Share Posted February 26, 2004 You need to enable clamshell mode with this http://macparts.de/ibook Beware of the extra heat though
jlund
That's not what I'm looking for. It looks like you need an external monitor or something. Or maybe I'm missing something?

Si Veteran Posted February 26, 2004 Veteran Share Posted February 26, 2004 oh you mean you want it to shut down when you close the lid?
Bling3k12
You can also use that hack to enable closed lid operation mode... so that when you close your iBook lid, the Mac doesn't go to sleep. I enabled it but sadly it didn't work... guess I didn't do it right. Either way, I don't suggest you do it anyways. Heat is also released off the keyboard and palmrest areas by convection (along with a fan on the inside), so heat rises, right onto your LCD. I wouldn't trust the little $5 or less fan to save your LCD from closed lid operation.
jlund
Hmm. Maybe someone could point me to a way to keep iChat running while still in sleep mode? My main reason for it to not goto sleep is for iChat to stay open overnight. I would keep it open but that'd keep me awake.
aaron901
why don't you just turn the brightness all the way down?
NeoMayhem
I think you will be ok not being on AIM the whole night, and your iBook will last longer to ;)
wilfried
Why don't you leave it open and have the screen turn off after 1 minute so it won't keep you open?

SabaTime
I dont think leaving your computer on and using all the electricity is too good for your iBook, thats my opinion

Bling3k12
Just press the brightness down button down for about 4 seconds and voila, your screen goes off! Unless the silence of your iBook is too loud that you can't sleep at night, I don't see what the problem is there. I do it every night, not a bit of a problem.
