s0nic_nz
Hey guys ive decided to hold off buying a powerbook just yet and thought id get something a lil cheaper and familiarise myself with osx. I know a friend who is selling a g4 dual 1.25 powermac but unfortunately he doesnt have any cds with it. Nor does it have a monitor. So what im wondering is can i connect the powermac with a normal pc monitor? And ive heard that macs usually come with a installation disk and a system restore disk. Will i be able to get them from shops that sell macs? Or will i have to buy a copy of panther and will this act as the disks mentioned? Thanks guys. Any help much appreciated Is this a decent computer? Mainly for very light gaming and maybe a bit of fireworks/web design. Cheers :)
the evn show
Yes, you can use a normal monitor with a powermac. In the worst case you'll need a DVI or ADC to VGA adapter (if you don't have a DVI capable LCD display). You should get install disks and software restore disk(s) and a hardware test disk with a mac. If you don't then you will need to buy new versions of panther and any applications you're interested in running: apple doesn't just give that stuff away. s0nic_nz
i understand. So do you get the hardware check disk when you purchase panther?
the evn show
The hardware check disk comes with the hardware. I'm not sure of any other way to get it.
Garry
Hopefully though, you'll never need the hardware check disk. It's not exactly essential to the running of the Mac in the way that the OS disks are. Be aware, however, that if you format the drive then install a new copy of Panther (from retail disks) then you're not going to have the ability to run programmes in classic mode unless you also have a copy of OS9 you can install. Again, this can be purchased at an extra cost, but isn't essential unless you plan to use OS9 based apps.
