I am so very annoyed right now. I can't update my apple ipod with my apple ibook!

iTunes just crashes on me every time! I have all the latest software updates for os x, itunes and the ipod. wtf! I've tried deleting the library and starting from fresh, also restoring the ipod. Nothing works. It does the same thing with software 2.0.1 too.

So far my experiences with mac is not good. How come it worked perfectly in windows?

i think 2nd gen ipods were made seprately, a pc only ipod, and a mac only ipod, and i think it was the same for the 3rd gen, like you cam upload files and **** to the ipod either way, but only the windows verson can be updated on windows and vice versa

Are you using the image that came with your machine? I never trusted that image, even though it's supposed to the be the same thing you get on a restore disc. I would really just recommend blowing away and restarting. I have had no problems with all my Apple appliances working with eachother, so there's something weird going on with your iPod, your iBook, or your image. I'm guessing the iPod or the image. Did you completely restore the iPod for Mac? Blew all the software on it away and everything? The 3rd Gen can't actually swing both ways IIRC. You have to format it for one or the other.

Repartitoned and re-installed os x, got the updates, manually restored the ipod 2.1 on the mac. still getting problems. this sucks

Okay, now I'm thinking it has something to do with your iBook hardware, which is sad. I got a dead processor when I got my G5. Apple really must've changed to a bad manufacturer or something. :hmmm:

Do you have user-installed RAM in there? I had similar problems with my girlfriend's iBook I got for chistmas that I tracked down to being a crap RAM module installed. Ripped that out and everything worked fine (though, slower without the RAM). Ordered another and now everything's A-OK :)

repair your permissions by going to Disk utilities inside the utilities folder in applications.

Also make sure you dont have anything plug in the firewire port (daisy chain) when you hook up ur ipod.

Make sure ur computer is up to date.

Run the hardware cd test. Take out extra ram u placed in ur ibook.

ok, yes I do have user installed ram, but I ran the hardware test cd and it passed, do you think I should try putting the apple supplied one back in anyway? There is nothing else in the firewire, the only things plugged into the ibook are the firwire cable for the ipod and the power cable for the ibook itself.

I've looked on the apple discussion boards and it seems I'm not the only one with the problem either, some others have had it start when they applied the latest security update (what does that have to do with ipod )

My G5 passed the hardware test with bad memory and a bad CPU. I don't trust that test. Kernel panics usually derive from hardware problems, so just try installing the Apple memory again.
