Tim Dorr Veteran Posted March 7, 2004 Veteran Share Posted March 7, 2004 What kind of Mac do you have? Are you totally sure it's frozen?
session
it's an ibook this time :p nope. it's not frozen. but it runs way too slow.
Elliott
I hope it's not an iBook G3. You'll never get anything out of Windows XP inside VPC with that. My PowerBook G4 1.25GHz was slooowwww....

Tim Dorr Veteran Posted March 7, 2004 Veteran Share Posted March 7, 2004 I would highly recommend installing Windows 2000, not XP. 2000 has always seemed a lot faster on VPC for me...
NeoMayhem
WinNT4 works great in VPC, it is actually fast :p Make sure you use a fixed disk size to, that seams to improve the performance a lot.
session
wut do you mean by fixed disk size? :/ im running windows 2000 pro now. it's still slow. i gave it 400 mb now. it takes about 2 hours to install (and it's still installing now) :/
Dazzla Veteran Posted March 7, 2004 Veteran Share Posted March 7, 2004 By default it's set to dynamic, where it changes the HD size on the fly, this reduces performance. Create a fixed size disk and install 2000 on there, giving it around half of your physical ram is also recommended.
session
hmmm how to create a fixed disk? :/ thanks for the assistance :)

icyorange
When you've got VPC open, go to the Window menu and select Virtual Disk Assistant. I've just converted my NT 4 (I think this runs the fastest, I only use VPC for MS Access anyway) hard drive file to a fixed size and it does seem to improve speed quite a bit. session
thanks a lot but what else would make it faster (well, i should say, more smooth) besides that? i've done that now (fixed disk, windows 2000, office xp) :)

session
I turned off all those effects already @ aristotle-dude: I'm useing Windows 2000 on VPC, not XP :) But anywho, I actually meant if there's any other config in VPC (besides fixed disk 'cus i've already done that) that will make it run faster
