Question

I'm in the market for a new virus checker, I've seen a few out there, NAV 2002, AVG, Panda Titanium. I'm just after some opinions. What do you people think is the best?

huh? Whats that? Any relation to NAV 2002?

Bear in mind any software I get I want to work flawlessly on Windows XP...

So I think that rules out the earlier editions on Norton.

NAV 2002/Norton Anti Virus 2002 won't do a full system scan on my computer. everytime I've tried I receive a message that there are missing components :( And if you check out the Symantec site, they have no clue as to why this happens. Great software, eh? NOT!

Actually - I use OnTrack's "Fix-It Utilities." This is a small footprint virus scanner with various other maintainence features. Has Real Time / On Demand Virus scanner, auto updates - and is very accurate and up to date. Does not change boot time, no retarted splash screens, does nto disrupt soft ware installs.

I hook my laptop up to a network at school; this product has protected me where Norton fails other students.

i use norton but mcafee's av is ALOT faster than norton without a doubt, it took over half an hr to scan for viruses on my 8 gig drive n it wasnt even done, n mcafee took only 5 min....

Had some problems installing noton 2002 on Xp at first.

so gave Mcafee a try and F-secure a try.

Got norton to work again, so thats wat i use now.

what i dont like about f-secure

it has to be always on, cant even hide the icon.

Mcafee - select a few files in exporer, right click scan with mcafee,

damm if you had 50 diffrent files, 50 mcafee's pop up, wtf.

i hear alot about panda, anyone try it yet?

;)

panda catches everything that rat**** of an antivir norton leaves behind plus it scans inside compressed files as a default. Go with panda or try sophos the lesbian antivirus

I take it you use Panda then? Is it really that good?

I dont use a virus scanner, they take up CPU time and RAM, just don't do stupid things where you can get a virus. I don't get any.

i use norton antivirus 2002 and am very much happy with it and would recommend it :)

it updates itself without needing any input from you (unless you set it otherwise) and i never got a virus, so i guess it is doing its job right :D

I use Computer Associate's eTRUST and I love it.

I haven't had any problems - it run great with XP - and it does a great job of detecting viruses - "damn script kiddies on Morpheus" :)

NAV2k2 - i use it and it works fine and already caught some virus

Mcafee - also good but really haven't run it in a while so i dunno
