jack_canada
i thought neowin has windows on their server....since it's a site about windows
HellBender
Geez, just because its a site about windows (hardly) doesnt mean it has to be running on a windows box. Just like it isn't running on IIS. Plus there's an entire forum dedicated to *nix... If we were running on windows, would you say "ROFL THERES A FORUMM ABOUT UNUX WHY R WE RUNNING WINDOZE" Not that hard to comprehend. Jessterw
yeah right did you know that microsoft had used linux servers in the past :D Microsoft runs a variety of operating systems for testing. Microsoft, for awhile, operated a rather large BSD network after acquiring Hotmail. Microsoft once had their very own version of Unix. I've never heard of Microsoft using Linux servers in a production environment.
raduking
me neither... did you actually pay $179$ for Redhat EL ? for hosting neowin even Redhat 7.0 is too much... (which is free) comon guys a little imagination here...

Homer
They do not have to pay for RHEL. The Planet will have a huge license probably, so we dont have to pay. Whats wrong with Neowin on a Linux server? As long as Redmak is happy running it, why should we bitch? Linux is more suited to the job anyway. All you idiot moaning about us being on *NIX can go hump a sheep. Neowin is linux based and thats the way its staying. You don't have to admin it, so therefore it doesent really matter what they are running.
Steven
As long as neowin is up, I couldn't care less even if it was running on a nintendo...
configure Veteran Posted March 9, 2004 Veteran Share Posted March 9, 2004 Microsoft once had their very own version of Unix. Xenix I believe? That was awhile back, eh? :) We don't admin the server, ThePlanet does.
Homer
Xenix I believe? That was awhile back, eh? :)We don't admin the server, ThePlanet does. Redmak does a few little things around the place, but he doesn't have to do things like kernal updates no more which is good :D StainD: My point exactly. ;)
Redmak Administrators Posted March 9, 2004 Administrators Share Posted March 9, 2004 Xenix I believe? That was awhile back, eh? :)We don't admin the server, ThePlanet does. We do admin the server ourselves :) Kernel upgrades are not that hard with Redhat
JCAP
Microsoft runs a variety of operating systems for testing. Microsoft, for awhile, operated a rather large BSD network after acquiring Hotmail. Jessterw
That's stretching it a bit. Microsoft itself is not operating those servers, Akamai is. These are caching system servers that only aid in distributing the load that would otherwise be placed directly on Microsoft's servers.
