ntfs file permissions

Recommended Posts

I had a folder with permissions so only *I* could access them and so could keep my little brother away from where he isn't wanted. But the problem is, my copy of Win XP where i set the permissions does not work anymore (some problems, and MS support say i will have to re-format).

But, i need the files from that folder. It keeps saying "access is denied" but it won't let me access that folder. The files are extremely important, and i can't find any info about this anywhere on the net...

omg, i worked it out!

after messing around for 2 hours, it was a simple as taking ownership of the files...this is just for anyone else who has any probs with it

"Right click and go to properties on the folder that you cannot access. Go to the security tab and choose advanced. Change the current owner to the current admin account, and check the box marked 'replace owners on subcontainers and objects'...click ok and voila!"
