Steve
BS  MacOS X 10.4 wont be out for a while, and im sure they wont even begin beta testing until mid 2004. So why is he talking BS then? You say Beta testing, you assume would start 'mid 2004', so when would you assume Alpha testing would start? Surely its before 'mid 2004' yes? If so ... well that would what?

Surely its before 'mid 2004' yes? If so ... well that would what? Nice. Couldn't have said it better myself. :) I have no doubt it's been in testing. That beta version they test drive at WWDC is usually given away to the audience, and then leaked on the internet soon after. I think we can safely assume there will be performance increases dealing with Mail, iChat, DVD Player, Safari, Sherlock, etc etc just like in every other release. Some gui changes/enhancements as well. Beyond that, it's up to Apple's imagination, which is what makes that beta test drive at WWDC quite exciting. The Mac geeks heaven on earth perhaps. the evn show
I trust we've all started putting our pennies aside for 10.4 already? 10.0 was huge over 9 (even if it sucked) 10.2 was worth the cash to upgrade from 10.1 (10.1 was free) 10.3 IMO was worth $60 as a student just for the speed improvements, expos?, and xCode - then there was all that other jazz. 10.4 -> Well, Apple's got themselves a pretty good track record in my eyes so I want their next OS as soon as possible. Cowpie
I agree completely, I wonder what else they could add to OS X though.....
Flae_qui
Every year, another $129. i find it very stupid of apple to keep putting out a new OS every year... why not just make a SP like MS does thats really all 10.3 is over 10.2 one big SP and you have to pay for it... what a crock
Southern Patriot
No, Apple's 10.x releases are far more than just service packs. They include not only bug fixes, but also new features. Microsoft's service packs are generally just a culmination of all of the previous bug fixes, and rarely include a new feature (in fact, until recently, Microsoft's official stance was that service packs would not include any new features). Apple's equivalent to Microsoft's service packs would be the fairly regular updates, such as the upcoming 10.3.3. Those are free, and at least they are far more frequent than the service packs from Microsoft.

They are quite obviously not service packs. Any small amount of usage of OS X will make that quite evident.
the evn show
I try not to get pulled into an open discussion with someone who evaluates both Apple's software offereings and business plan without owning ANY of the products they're ranting about. The PM button is another story :)
mac15
BS  MacOS X 10.4 wont be out for a while, and im sure they wont even begin beta testing until mid 2004. I'm not speaking BS, definately not . First off where does it leave me if you found out I was speaking BS, I'd be left with zero credability from there on... And they build these things months/years ahead of time. I had a build of 10.2 that dated back before 10.1.3 was released, so just assume I'm talking crap He has an Alpha of 10.4 but due to the face it trues to sync netinfo with an Apple server (something like that) you can't log in at all.
