Myria
Hello, here I am again to mess things up. I was thinking of installing Slackware to my PC at home (we have two laptop's too) and we have a Wlan, I was guessing, Is it hard to share Printer for those two laptops with slackware? (both laptops use winxp) And is it hard to get working via wlan? Thanks already.
markwolfe Veteran Posted March 11, 2004 Veteran Share Posted March 11, 2004 It's not hard, if you know how to configure samba.
PseudoRandomDragon
The most difficult concept is mounting it. When you want to access a drive on another computer using Linux, you have to mount it and set a path for it called a "mount point". By default it is your home directory. Samba pretty much handles all the really complicated stuff for you.

markwolfe Veteran Posted March 11, 2004 Veteran Share Posted March 11, 2004 Ok, I have re-read your post, and I have a few questions: 1) Is Slack your best choice? Other noob distros can set this up pretty much out of the box for you, and you can learn at your own pace later (with a working system). 2) If you have a WLAN on a notebook, it can get tricky. Do you have the ability to direct-connect (just in case)? On the positive side, there have been many postitive recent announcement (from Intel, etc.) that are greatly advancing Linux's ability to easily use wireless without a lot of jumping through hoops.
