moved to software assistance

yes, I think the CD pops up a screen that gets launched with autoplay. It gives you the option of installing Easy CD Creator, Direct CD..etc..

Just click Direct CD

You can install it, but I wouldn't reccomend it, it takes over your entire system CD writing stuff, the built in writing wont work. And I had loads of trouble with it.

Some people swear by it, but I'll stick with Nero, even the built in writing is better then the Roxio software.

I haven't had any trouble with Direct CD in Windows XP. I don't think you can install it separately. As far as I know it only comes with Easy CD Creator.

Does Nero have a version of INCD that works with Windows XP yet? If so it must be new.

Easy CD Creator and Direct CD sucks under Win2K/XP.

Nero all the way! InCD is really great, and it worked for me when I installed an early version, about three/four months ago. But Nero itself can write and rewrite CDRWs, the only problem is that if you want to rewrite, you should re-format the CDRW.

i don't get why you'd wanna use directCD in the first place, i think it's crap :(

i don't really use easy cd creator now...'coz i use WMP8 to burn audio cds, and nero for everything else, it's faster, and just as efficient ;)

Funny then how the built in burning capabilities of XP were created by Roxio.:D

Yeah, but you format the CDRW only in the first use. After that, you can copy/paste files into the CDRW using win explorer without having to re-format, so you can keep the old stored files in the CDRW. Using Nero, you can't do such thing. Every time you want to add files you re-format so the old files stored are gone, but who cares? Nero rules!

So Nero can't do everything that Direct CD can but it rules.

as far as i know, you can't install direct cd separately from ez cd creator.

but: ez creator is damn bad man, it f***de many people's system. so: in my opinion winoncd from roxio is the best. it has the direct cd built in and works great under xp:D

the newest version of WinOnCD, so WinOnCD 5 Power Edition works fine in xp and is certified as xp-compatible as far as i know. there is also a sp1 available that fixes some issues:D

Yeah! :) A RW is a RW you can do some what the same things with Nero too. Direct CD is crap cause it has problems with Win2K/XP. I used direct cd some time ago, when I had Win9x but when I firstly installed direct cd under Win2K, my system went nuts. It was restarting automatically, without even managing to get to the desktop... I don't know how the newest versions work, but really I don't need these, cause Nero, is way the best cd writing program...

hmm..from what i understand cd-r writing and cd-rw writing are two different things that need two different types of software..Ahead software created Nero burning rom for cd-r's and a packet writing software that allows you to use a cd-rw like a floppy disk (add or erase files continually) called InCD..Roxio created Easy CD creator for cd-r's and DirectCD for their packet writing software..

i've tried both w/ all the latest updates and they work fine..personally, i like Ahead's software better..i use both Nero and InCD..

and for InCD you don't have to reformat everytime you need to add files...well, for me at least..it's just like using a floppy disk..make sure you always have the latest version..InCD is now winxp compliant..
