linux print server howto?

Recommended Posts

I want to use Samba as a print (and file) server for Windows clients.

Do I need to have a Linux-compatible printer driver for my printer model to make this work? It currently uses a parallel cable which should simplify things a bit (it will also use USB if that helps).

The printer is a HP Color Inkjet cp1700 printer. Specs:

I don't see any linux drivers here:

I need support for printing on tabloid paper (11x17"). It is HP PCL 3 (Enhanced) compatible. I don't have the model with the duplex unit or Postscript.

The clients will be using AutoCAD for Windows or something similar.

I assume this should be do-able. Any help would be appreciated.
