Nodiaque
Anyone know a fully customizable firewall for win xp pro that is like ipchains in Linux?
MxxCon
norton firewall is pretty customizable. also tiny firewall is good. stay away from zonealram, you can't customize it for ****:ermm: Conseal Firewall is nice as well.
Ice Blue
Tiny Personal Firewall is now Kerio Personal Firewall. www.kerio.com
Nodiaque
They sure look like great firewall, but they are still app based. Maybe I baddly expressed my need, I whant a firewall port based, meaning that he show if the port is open/close and accept/refuse request and allow you to change if they are open/close and if they accept/refuse communication, not if x app can access the net. Ice Blue
Kerio Personal Firewall can do that too. :p
Nodiaque
Nope, its only an accept/refuse request that there is, I just check every firewall that was said, he don't tell me if port are open/close and allow me to close them, he accept/refuse request so ppl think they are close, but he make them stealth so they are still open. I'm speaking of open/close like ipchains in linux do.

Redmak Administrators Posted February 18, 2002 Administrators Share Posted February 18, 2002 Sygate is app based but you can open and close ports Checkpoint is a good firewall and does the stuff you want (expensive)

SLR_Vision
NIS does exactly what you want to do. Even if it's based on app requests, you can easily ask for a specific port to be opened or closed. These options are in advanced options
Jon
NIS is bloated crap written for 'idiot home users' (read:aol). Use Tiny personal firewall, or watever its been renamed to, if you must use a software personal firewall....

Zombie9920
Most modern software firewalls stealth your ports. You can check your port status over at http://www.grc.com (go to shields up). There is a better test that checks alot more of your ports than GRC does over at http://security1.norton.com/SSC/ (Go to the Scan for Security Risks section)

Jon
Heh and why exactly do you say that? Next time you want to insult someone, put some kinda info / argue some points to back it up. If it was on the basis of my grc comment, I'll say one thing: Any one who believes what Steve says is a gulible fool with no real understanding of the internet, security concepts, related protocols, and the people they are trying to defend them selfs against.
