LordHatrus
I was trying to introduce my father to linux (read: not too much of a n00b, he's not too bad) so I decided to start him on Fedora (because it was relatively easy for him, plus I didn't want to hang around compiling something for hours on hours (It's a slow Pentium 2 PC) So, it works fine, I had to spend a while working out the hardware, because this is an old computer with very cheap, generic-brand parts...... except for one problem, it hangs AFTER any sound is played through the stuuuppid sound card. I had a knoppix disc with me, and I tried that, and sure enough, the same problem, just as the first sound came up upon booting, it stopped responding. ALSA and OSS.... darn you both. The sound card is a: ForteMedia FM801 Anyone have this problem? How to fix?
MR_Candyman
Maybe you just set the kernel up to not include driver support for it. That driver IS included in the kernel, but it DOES have some limitations. http://mkp.net/forte/
