aldo
I agree - get your memory from Crucial (?93) and try and find an Airport Extreme card on eBay.
BTallack
You should be eligable for Apple education pricing so you can save a couple hundred. I would suggest getting it with Airport built-in, then buy extra memory from another supplier.
Gary_Player
Go for either the ibook 14in or a 12in powerbook...definetly get the student discount and DEFINETLY get applecare. Have an airport extreme card put in it and buy your RAM elsewhere! Might be a good idea to wait a week or 2 because it looks like both lines are going to be updated before the end of the month (supposidly)
skywalker
Go for a 12" Powerbook, because of the Superdrive. Don't buy additional memory from Apple, it's much too expensive. Get it from your local Apple dealer instead.
Cowpie
I just got a 12" pbook, upgraded to AE card, end cost of about 1600 USD. Then went to cruicial and bought a extra 256 of memory, for $60 I cant say enough good things bout pbooks.....
TheWitePony
Get your hands on OfficeX or Open Office for opening all those MS Office Docs.
TheWitePony
Also, depending on your budget the 12" pb and the highest end iBook may seem alike but I believe there is a performance difference between the two, the 12" being the faster of the two. Something to keep in mind if your budget allows to spend that little more for a little extra performance. I think the iBook will suit you very well. Bottom line here, whatever you choose from Apple will soon be the best computer you have ever used...so you can't go wrong!!
