Rockett15
:( I have Installed Mandy 10 and damn it looks sweet; but, still to this day I cannot use the internet with my set-up Using Rogers High-Speed with a VIA VT6103 (RhineII) ethernet that plugs into my Terayon Cable modem which just acts as the adapter when connected through an Ethernet. Anyway, it configures the card and installs it.. detects it and assigns it as eth0. This is totally normal.. when I go through the wizard however I use automatic assigned from DHCP.. which is what it is and my modem lights start flashing when it restarts the networking. This is all good but after it's done I am still not connected. I have tried all sorts of variations of this and still nothing. What makes me crazy is SuSE, Redhat & Fedora have had no problem with it and set it up in the set-up. Picked up the set-up from the DHCP client no bother.. Why is it that Mandrake continues to not work with my set-up? Anyone had any problems like this? Slike
I think there's a serious problem with the dhclient-software of MDK10. I use a Centrino wifi-card with ndiswrapper, loading and configuring without any problem. But when I try to get an ip (dhclient wlan0), it tries and tries and tries.... But I don't get online :( I checked the manpages of dhclient. Some scripts the manual refered to don't even exist on my pc... (eg /etc/dhclient.conf). I'm just not experienced enough to solve it  I think you're having the same problem as I have... Slike
Rockett15
:pinch: sounds like it.. my internet hasnt worked on Mandy since 8.2 when I had a dial-up modem.. I had a hope that by 10.X it would be fixed *sighs* What makes me crazy is Mandrake looks fantastic .. much better than Fedora.. but I have to continue using Fedora because of that
Rockett15
:woot: I got in in Mandrake 10.0 -- you just have to input your default gateway.. which you can get from windows
Shadrack
Yup, all about that gateway, Rockett
Rockett15
 all is not good however... the internet in Mandrake is rediculously slow.. it feels like being on 56k when I have a 3mbit connection
kongit
You thought about installing a different dhcp client daemon? dhcpcd is what is used in slackware and it works great: http://freshmeat.net/projects/dhcpcd/ I am downloading mandrake 10 right now to test it out. Will tell if I can get the internet to work. I never had a problem with it with mandrake 9.2.

Rockett15
 it's definately a problem with the Mandrake DHCP system as it doesnt start properly at boot and always fails.. have to restart it every time
kongit
Do tell me if it works well .. Worked just fine except for the internet, but I figured out how to get around it. When installing choose expert and install the dhcpcd package. Don't configure your network, but leave it alone during the install. Once installed go into the terminal become root and type in modprobe yourcarddriver mine is a broadcom 4400 so I typed in modprobe bcm4400 after that type in dhcpcd eth0 and it should work. However this only would work for people like me who use an ethernet card connected to a dynamic network that doesn't require a host name or dns stuff. :) Lastly I uninstalled it because I remembered why I didn't like it....hard to configure. I couldn't get it up to kernel 2.6 without a lot of work and then it wouldn't work right. But it is a very good distro for normal use. I am just too used to slackware..... Rockett15
:) doing it through the terminal seems to have given a minor improvement on speed; however, it still isnt great
MulletRobZ
If you have Shorewall, disable it. I had to do that in order to get my ADSL PPPoE connection to work. Linux Internet should go a bit faster than Windows.
